Businesswoman, entrepreneur, educator, ambassador, author and mentor – Janice Bryant Howroyd is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of The Act•1 Group, a global enterprise that delivers customized, cutting edge solutions to the human resources industry. The Act•1 Group is a multi-billion dollar (USD) award-winning, International Talent and Talent Technology enterprise with multiple divisions that each service unique areas of employment and provide talent management solutions.
Janice founded The Act 1 Group, (www.Act1Group.com ) in 1978 as a one desk placement firm, that now operates globally and offers staffing services across North America via AppleOne (www.AppleOne.com), A-Check Global (www.ACheckGlobal.com) which provides Background Checks & Screenings across global geographies, and Agile-1 (www.Agile-1.com) which provides solutions to mitigate and streamline companies’ hiring processes for contingent workers (temporary, contractors, seasonal, project-based) and/or direct workers (full/part-time employees, FTEs). Agile-1’s proprietary technologies automate the hiring processes across an organization, while the on-site or remote programs manage multiple staffing agencies, named resources, project-based workers, or recruitment processes. Together, the offered services and technologies improve visibility, decrease liability and overhead, and save clients’ costs while effectively managing workforce.
Janice is renowned for her civic, as well as business, engagements. Via scholarship funding, and personal service, she supports universities (Harvard, University of Southern California, California State University, San Bernardino and her own alma mater, North Carolina A&T), women’s support organizations (WBENC, The Trusteeship), Minority serving organizations (NMSDC, Urban League, LAEDC and more), and is a mentor to others through personal work and media engagements: NBC Today Show, Mrs. Janice Bryant Howroyd Inducted into the NBCA Hall of Fame and AppleOne CEO Janice Bryant Howroyd Presented With Prestigious SCMSDC Leadership Excellence Award. Janice also received The Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of the USA’s 44th President, Barack Obama on January 28th, 2017. Dr. Bryant Howroyd has earned many honors from a wide range of organizations. She was BET’s first ever BET Honors Entrepreneur of the Year! In 2013, she was appointed a USA Ambassador of Energy at the White House.
As a community leader and advocate for education, she lends her guidance to select organizations that includes the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporate Board, and the Women’s Leadership Board of the Kennedy School of Government/Harvard University. Howroyd is an ambassador of the Department of Energy’s Minorities in Energy Initiative, a board member to numerous organizations including the United States Department of Labor‘s Workforce Initiative Board. Her commitment to the advancement of women in business led her to accept board level service on the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council, WeConnect International, and the Women Presidents’ Organization. She also serves on the boards of the National Utilities Diversity Council, California Science Center, Los Angeles Urban League, and gives federal level service as a member of the Industry Trade Advisory Committee on Services and Finance Industries of the U.S. Trade Representative and the United States Department of Commerce. Janice has traveled to over fifty countries promoting education and the powerful impact it has on communities around the world. Her accomplishments, both personal and professional, are inspired by her deep faith and her love for her family. She says, “One cannot effectively lead without passionately serving.”Her professional mantra is “Never compromise who you are personally to become who you wish to be professionally.”
